The intervention named Clean Slum, Healthy slum for a better today & tomorrow dealtwith the issue of improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities and reductionin Diarrhea by 80%. The Programme aimed at making slums open defecation free and had astrong component of school sanitation and hygiene. The programme also had a component ofpromoting individual, shared and community toilets. It ran in close collaboration of concernedgovernment departments & Municipal Corporation. It evolved to People led action for suitable WASH Services in 4 states Area of intervention – 50 slums, urban poor settlements of Lucknow, 27 Government Schools, 4 Minority Institutions and 2 schools with special needs. Key objectives: People residing in Urban Villages and Urban Poor Settlements to have improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities along with promotion of behaviour change and adopting hygiene behaviours in order to ensure improved hygiene amongst the people.
